'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Grosses $153.5 Million for Christmas Weekend, Hits $1 Billion Globally!
Star Wars: The Force Awakens just broke the Christmas weekend box office record with a whopping $153.5 million haul!
According to THR, the seventh installment, starring Harrison Ford, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, and more, has made $544.6 million domestically so far and has surpassed the $1 billion mark worldwide.
Coming in second was Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell‘s new comedy Daddy’s Home, which debuted to an impressive $38.8 million.
David O. Russell‘s Joy, starring Jennifer Lawrence, took the third spot with a solid $17.5 million gross.
Rounding out the top five were Tina Fey and Amy Poehler‘s new comedy Sisters, and the animated flick Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, which earned $13.9 million and $12.7 million, respectively.
Meanwhile, Concussion, starring Will Smith, placed No. 6 with an estimated $11 million.
Quentin Tarantino‘s new movie The Hateful Eight grossed $4.5 million from 100 theaters for a location average of $45,366.
The Revenant, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, debuted to $471,000 million from four theaters in New York and Los Angeles for a location average of $117,750.
