VIDEO: Zayn Malik Wins New Artist of the Year at AMAs 2016!

Zayn Malik won the New Artist of the Year award at the 2016 American Music Awards!

The 23-year-old entertainer attended the show – held at the Microsoft Theater on Sunday (November 20) in Los Angeles – to support his girlfriend Gigi Hadid, who is acting as a co-host with Jay Pharoah this evening. Zayn was also nominated for the one award. He was up against Alessia Cara, The Chainsmokers, DNCE, and Shawn Mendes. Congrats, Zayn!

During his acceptance speech, Zayn threw a bit of shade, seemingly at One Direction.

“This one just has my name on it right?,” Zayn said. He added that he “didn’t expect anyone to vote” for him for the prize. “I’ll put it on my fireplace.”

The award was presented by Teyana Taylor and Bryce Harper. Watch below!
