Faye Dunaway Speaks Out About Oscars Best Picture Mistake: 'I Felt Very Guilty'

Faye Dunaway is opening up for the first time about the moment she and Warren Beatty announced the wrong winner for Best Picture at the 2017 Oscars.

While it was later revealed that the two were handed the wrong envelope, the 76-year-old Bonnie and Clyde actress said she was “completely stunned” at the time and thought Warren might have been joking.

“We took the card out, and he didn’t say anything,” Faye told Lester Holt on NBC Nightly News. “He paused, he looked over me, off stage… and I finally said, ‘You’re impossible!’”

“I thought he was joking,” she went on. “I thought he was stalling. Warren‘s like that, he kind of holds the power… but it’s part of his charm. I read the name of the film on the card.”

“You don’t know what has happened,” she added. “I [felt] very guilty – I thought I could have done something, surely, why couldn’t I have seen Emma Stone‘s name on the card?”
