Holly Madison Looks Back at Her Relationship with Hugh Hefner, Explains Why They Broke Up

Holly Madison is looking back on her time in the Playboy Mansion.

In a new interview on the Call Her Daddy Podcast, the 41-year-old author and former reality star opened up about her time as the late Hugh Hefner‘s girlfriend.

When asked about moving into the Playboy Mansion, Holly said that she – and the rest of the Playboy Bunnies – “had to sleep” with the Playboy founder first.

“I’m not trying to slut-shame anybody or anything, but nobody ever got asked to move in unless they had slept with him,” Holly said.

Holly dated Hugh from 2001 to 2008 before their breakup and she moved out of the Mansion. Hugh died in September 2017 at the age of 91.

While they were together, Holly said she had “boring basic sex” with Hugh, adding that she was grateful they never got pregnant.

“I knew it was because of him. I was healthy. He was just too old,” Holly shared. “When I had first gotten into that situation and something happened in my mind that first night I had sex, where I felt like, ‘Ok I did that. I like breached my own boundaries and I wasn’t comfortable with it. Now I have to make this situation into something.’ I almost locked myself into this box.”

Holly then explained why she decided it was time to break up with Hugh and leave the Mansion, but she had “a lot of guilt” about it.

“When I realized I wasn’t going to be able to have kids with him, that was a big thing … and my depression was coming back,” Holly recalled. “As everybody was leaving, I started to realize it’s just me and Hef, he started lashing out at me more. I don’t know if he was just stressed … I know things weren’t so great financially for him. He started lashing out for really stupid things and I just realized I can’t be here. This guy is an asshole, I can’t stay here.”

After breaking up with Hugh, Holly went on to marry Pasquale Rotella in 2013, before splitting in 2019. They share two kids – daughter Rainbow, 8, and son Forest, 4.
