Jonshel Alexander, 'Beasts of the Southern Wild' Child Star, Dies At Age 22

Jonshel Alexander, one of the young stars of Beasts of the Southern Wild, has sadly died.

The actress, who starred opposite Quvenzhane Wallis in the Oscar-nominated film, was shot and killed in Louisiana over the weekend, at the young age of 22.

Via THR, local police reported that Jonshel and a man were shot inside a vehicle Saturday in New Orleans, and she was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The man was taken to a a hospital for treatment.

Jonshel starred as Joy Strong in Beasts of the Southern Wild.

Quvenzhane, who is still the youngest best actress nominee in Academy Awards history, paid tribute to Jonshel on social media.

“when were filming we were always together and i wish i could go back in time so i can see you again,” she wrote with a series of photos with Jonshel. “i love you. you will be missed by so many.🙏🏽🕊🕊#jonshel #gonetoosoon #prayersgoingup.”
