The Real Neff from 'Inventing Anna' Explains Why She Has Empathy for Anna Delvey After Everything That Happened

Neffatari Davis, the real-life person who inspired the character Neff in the Netflix series Inventing Anna, has opened up about what really happened.

In a recent interview, Neffatari opened up about her friendship with Anna Delvey and why she still considers her a friend, despite everything that happened.

For those who don’t know, Neff was a college student working part-time at the 11 Howard hotel when she first met Anna. In the Netflix series, she is portrayed by actress Alexis Floyd.

Anna was like a little fairy who had just landed in New York. I just thought, ‘This is my little weird friend,’” Neff told the New York Post.

Neff says she “had no clue” what was really going on with Anna.

“She never, ever told me she was a scammer,” she said. “If she had told me, I would have told her, ‘Look, this ain’t going to work out — I’m the black girl, they’re going to blame it on me.’ All I knew was that I had a friend, a rich heiress, who wanted to help me become better.”

Despite that, Neff says that she still has empathy for Anna.

“What I realize now is that she felt so guilty, she needed to give back to someone to almost release her from the guilt of stealing this money. And her tips helped with my bills, my college debt,” she said. “My mom still thinks it’s insane that we’re friends — all she sees is socialite scammer theft — but why would I sit and hate her?”

Neff was reportedly paid six figures by Shondaland to be a consultant on Inventing Anna!

The real Anna was supposed to be deported this week, but it didn’t happen.
