Julia Fox Sparks Debate After Sharing Parenting Advice to TikTok

Julia Fox‘s parenting tips are causing a stir online.

In a video posted to TikTok last Sunday (August 21), the 32-year-old Uncut Gems actress shared her philosophy on “the concept of childhood” and said she thought parents should buy their children cleaning supplies instead of toys.

“I think that the idea of childhood was invented as a way to just get parents to spend a lot of money on s–t that’s… not really teaching your kid anything,” she explained in the clip. Julia shares her 19-month-old son, Valentino, with her ex-husband Peter Artemiev.

She continued, “You just end up kind of raising a kid that’s like helpless and doesn’t know what to do.”

She went on to note that her son doesn’t care about his “toys” and telling parents to buy their children cleaning supplies, such as a broom or a mop.

“I found that with my son, he doesn’t care about his toys, and he is actually more interested in like what I’m doing,” Julia said. “So I suggest that everyone buy their kid a mini-mop and mini-broom and start teaching them those life skills really young, so when they enter the real world they don’t have to outsource for everything.”

“And they know how to do things for themselves,” she concluded. “I think that’s really important.”

The video has amassed over 2.7 million views, with TikTok users taking to the comment section to share their thoughts on Julia‘s advice.

“We love a capitalist class labour relations conscious queen 👸🏼 Marx and Engels could never,” one person wrote, while another quipped: “Completely agree my son has been doing electric work in our home since he was 1.5 yrs.”

Some fans were more direct in their criticism, with one user writing, “Giving kids toys that don’t necessarily have a purpose (to us) isn’t ‘pointless,’ it aids in their cognitive/physical development! Toys aren’t useless.”

Another added, “I would argue that the concept of childhood is more about protecting people at the most vulnerable stage of their life than selling products?”

Julia followed up by posting another video, in which she showed a clip of her son’s mini cleaning supplies with the caption: “Me staring at the most controversial thing I did this year.” Check out both her videos down below!
