'The Masked Singer' 2022 - 22 Contestants & New Show Format Revealed for Season 8

The new season of The Masked Singer begins TONIGHT (September 21) and a new format for the show will be introduced.

The eighth season of the Fox reality competition series will feature 22 celeb contestants, more than ever before.

During the premiere night, four contestants will perform and then the audience will vote for their favorites. The two with the least amount of votes will be unmasked immediately. The two with the most votes will perform again in a “Battle Royale,” in which they’ll sing the same song. The winner will advance to the next round while the loser will be unmasked.

Three people will be unmasked on night one! In future weeks, only three contestants will perform each episode and two will be unmasked. There will seemingly be seven celebs in the next round.

“This season, the whole concept is the king or queen of The Masked Singer. So in every episode, you’ll see new contestants come in, and each week there will be multiple eliminations. Only one person will go through at the end. It’s also like a fast track pass to all of the clues. Instead of waiting eight weeks for some of these individuals to find out who they are, if you really pay attention, you can guess who they are so much easier. There’s so much excitement, there’s so much energy within it by doing this format. Also, this season for the first time, every episode has a theme. It just brings a whole new quality to the show and we can tie in different songs and that we would never be able to do on The Masked Singer,” executive producer Craig Plestis told TheWrap.
