Alyssa Milano Marks 5th Anniversary of Her Original #MeToo Tweet

Alyssa Milano is marking the fifth anniversary of her tweet that helped spark the #MeToo movement.

On October 15, 2017, Alyssa took to Twitter and wrote, “If you’ve been sexually harassed or assaulted write ‘me too’ as a reply to this tweet.”

The movement was originally started by activist Tarana Burke and it went viral in 2017 after Alyssa shared her tweet, days after the exposure of the Harvey Weinstein scandal. Celebs such as Jennifer Lawrence, Ashley Judd, and Gwyneth Paltrow all shared their experiences, along with millions of other people.

Alyssa also said in the tweet, “Me too. Suggested by a friend: ‘If all the women who have been sexually harassed or assaulted wrote ‘Me too.’ as a status, we might give people a sense of the magnitude of the problem.”

On October 15, 2022, Alyssa went on Twitter and reshared the tweet with the hashtag, #MeToo.
