Kate Winslet Donates $20,000 To A Mom & Her Disabled Daughter For Their Energy Bills

Kate Winslet donated $20,000 (£17,000) to a mom in Scotland whose disabled daughter needs life support equipment that utilizes large amounts of electricity.

The 46-year-old Titanic actress made the donation through the mom’s GoFundMe page, which says “Despite campaigning publicly for the past 7 months about how detrimental the increase in energy prices are for my 12 year old Daughter Freya living with severe complex health needs who requires a high level of nursing support and equipment at home, the UK and Scottish Government have failed to acknowledge my pleas for appropriate support to be put in place to prevent a Healthcare Crisis for my family.”

Kate‘s donation is the top donation among almost 400 donations. “When I heard about the money I just burst into tears — I thought it wasn’t even real. I’m still thinking is this real?” Carolynne Hunter told the BBC. “We’re still freezing and we’re not even at minus temperatures yet. I am nipping at the staff not to put the heating on unless it’s necessary.”

“I’m going to be helped but what about everyone else?” she added. “I wanted the government to pay for it and do the right thing – it shouldn’t have to be a celebrity that steps in.”

Earlier this year, Kate had to be brought to a hospital after she suffered a fall on the set of the movie Lee, but was able to return to work shortly thereafter.
