Jerry Bruckheimer Says Margot Robbie's 'Pirates' Movie Is 'Still Alive' At Disney, Despite Her Recent Comments

Jerry Bruckheimer is opening up about the status of the female-led Pirates of the Caribbean movie that is currently on hold.

Earlier this month, Margot Robbie revealed that the project will no longer be happening.

“We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led—not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story—which we thought would’ve been really cool, but I guess they don’t want to do it,” she shared during an interview with Vanity Fair.

At the time, Jerry did speak out and say that it wasn’t dead at the studio, but it was on hold.

Now, in a new interview, he opened up more about the status of what was going on with the film.

While chatting with The Hollywood Reporter about his lengthy, and successful, career, Jerry said that the Pirates movie with Margot starring was very much alive.

“I think we’re getting very close on that one, too. We have a very good script,” he shared. “We developed two of them — the one with Margot Robbie and one with a younger cast. The Margot Robbie one needs a little more work. The younger cast one is close. Hopefully we’ll get both of them.”

Jerry then commented on what Margot said of the project not happening.

“It’s alive for me. It’s alive for Disney,” he remarked. “I’m sure she was disappointed it didn’t go first — or maybe not because she’s very busy, so it might be a blessing to push this a bit. We believe we’ll get it made. It’s a very strong story.”
