Carey Mulligan Was Accidentally Announced as Winner at BAFTAs 2023

Oops! Carey Mulligan was accidentally announced as one of the winners at the 2023 BAFTAs!

The 37-year-old actress was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the 2023 EE BAFTA Film Awards held at The Royal Festival Hall on Sunday (February 19) in London, England.

Carey was initially revealed as the winner, but then it was announced that The Banshees of Inisherin star Kerry Condon was the actual recipient of the award.

Head inside to find out what happened…

Variety reports that CODA actor Troy Kotsur was announcing the winner of the category and he spoke through sign language. The interpreter mistakenly announced that Carey was the winner, but then he quickly corrected the mix-up and revealed Kerry as the winner.

It’s unknown if the error was because of Kotsur reading the card incorrectly or the interpreter announcing it incorrectly, according to Variety.

Check out the full winners list and see photos of every celeb on the red carpet!

FYI: Carey is wearing Dior. Kerry is wearing a Giorgio Armani Privé gown.
