John Travolta Delivers Teary Tribute to Olivia Newton John While Presenting Oscars In Memoriam Segment

John Travolta got emotional while paying tribute to the late Olivia Newton John at the 2023 Oscars on Sunday night (March 12).

The Grease icon took the stage to present Lenny Kravitz‘s In Memoriam performance.

While doing so, he delivered a powerful speech that brought him to tears and featured a special reference to his late co-star.

After coming out to an orchestral performance of Olivia‘s Grease song “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” John highlighted the talent that we lost this year.

“In this industry we have the rare luxury of getting to do what we love for a living and sometimes getting to do it with people that we come to love. Since tonight is a celebration of the work and the accomplishments of our community in this past year, it is only fitting then that we celebrate the lives of those we lost,” he said.

John continued, saying, “Each of them left an individual and indelible mark that shared and informed us. They’ve touched our hearts. They’ve made us smile and became dear friends who we will always remain hopelessly devoted to.”

Olivia passed away at the age of 73 in August 2022. John released a tribute at the time and also referenced their Grease collab during a Super Bowl commercial.
