Austin Butler‘s big day has finally arrived, and you might be wondering who he brought along with him to celebrate at the 2023 Oscars.
The 31-year-old Elvis star arrived at the awards show – where he is nominated for Best Actor for his portrayal of Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann‘s biopic – on Sunday evening (March 12).
While he walked the red carpet solo, fans likely noticed that he was sitting next to someone once the show began. Spoiler alert, it wasn’t his girlfriend Kaia Gerber.

Kaia was unable to make the awards show as she had an appearance at the 2023 SXSW Conference and Festivals to promote her new movie Bottoms.
While we didn’t know that for sure until photos emerged of her at the event on Saturday, Austin had previously hinted that he’d be bringing someone else along for the awards ceremony – his close friend and agent James Farrell.
“I’ve known him since I was 17 years old and he also happens to be my agent,” Austin said about James during an interview with Access Hollywood last month. “We were friends first, and I would not have my career without him. The amount of times that he’s helping me to decide on whether or not to do something or he’s pushed me to. He’s believed in me in moments where maybe I didn’t believe in myself.”
He continued, saying “I think I’m gonna bring James because he’s been on this ride with me for a long time.”
Did you know that four other big stars were rumored to be competing with Austin for the role in Elvis? One of his alleged competitors is in another movie that’s nominated at the Oscars this year.
