Zendaya's Movie 'Challengers' Pushes Back Release Date Due to SAG Strike, Cancels Venice Film Festival Premiere

Fans are going to have to a wait a few more months before Zendaya‘s next movie hits theaters.

Originally, the 26-year-old actress’ new movie Challengers from director Luca Guadagnino was scheduled to hit theaters on September 15.

However, on Friday (July 21), it was revealed that the movie won’t be hitting theaters until 2024 due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

Challengers is now scheduled to be released in theaters on April 26, 2024, according to Deadline.

The movie was also set to have its world premiere at the opening night of the 2023 Venice Film Festival on August 30, but it has now be removed from the festival.

Challengers stars Zendaya as Tashi Duncan, a former tennis prodigy turned coach and a force of nature who makes no apologies for her game on and off the court. Married to a champion on a losing streak (Mike Faist), Tashi’s strategy for her husband’s redemption takes a surprising turn when he must face off against the washed-up Patrick (Josh O’Connor) – his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend. As their pasts and presents collide, and tensions run high, Tashi must ask herself, what will it cost to win.
