Hugh Grant's 'Wonka' Role as Oompa Loompa Draws Criticism From Actor With Dwarfism

It was revealed that Hugh Grant will be playing an Oompa Loompa in the upcoming Wonka movie, opposite Timothee Chalamet.

However, not everyone is excited to see him as such.

One actor, who has dwarfism, is speaking out about Hugh taking on the role.

George Coppen spoke with BBC about seeing Hugh in the trailer, and said that it should’ve been given to an actor with the condition.

“A lot of actors [with dwarfism] feel like we are being pushed out of the industry we love,” he shared. “A lot of people, myself included, argue that dwarfs should be offered everyday roles in dramas and soaps, but we aren’t getting offered those roles. One door is being closed but they have forgotten to open the next one.”

George then said after seeing Hugh in the trailer, all he saw was Hugh’s “enlarged” head “so his head looks bigger. [I thought] what the hell have you done to him?”
