Jared Leto Discusses Drugs, Addiction & the 'Epiphany' That Made Him Stop Using

Jared Leto had an honest conversation about addiction and drug use in a new interview.

The 51-year-old 30 Seconds to Mars musician and actor described himself as a “professional drug user” during a conversation with Apple Music.

He also explained the “epiphany” that helped him stop using.

Jared explained that he “grew up in an environment where there were drugs around.”

“I mean, I knew what the smell of weed is, you know, as a very young kid. I mean, I remember walking by some trees – some bushes or something – as a very young kid. Like maybe, I don’t know, fourth grade or something and saying to the other kids, ‘Oh, someone’s smoking pot there.’ They were like, ‘What’s pot?’ They didn’t know what that certain spice was,” Jared recalled.

He continued, saying, “I was always interested in that. I was always interested in drugs. I was always interested in an experience. I was interested in taking some risk, yeah. I think that’s probably common for people that like to experiment or explore.”

The actor acknowledged that addiction was a risk, saying that for him “I took it for a ride, and then it took me for a ride for sure.”

What led to him stopping?

“I had an epiphany. I had a moment of clarity, that’s what they call it. And I knew that I wanted to hopefully accomplish things in my life that I was proud of. To do something special with my life,” he explained. “I had a moment of clarity. Had an epiphany that there were two paths that I could take in life.”

He continued, saying, “I took that path. I’ve had very close friends that didn’t, and they’re not here anymore. Many.”

Jared also acknowledged that he was a dealer.

This isn’t the first time that Jared has discussed his drug usage.

If you missed it, earlier this week Jared reacted to the news that someone tried to send him and another famous actor human urine and feces.
