Bella Ramsey, the young star of the new HBO series The Last of Us, has come out as gender fluid.

The 19-year-old actress is best known for playing Lyanna Mormont in HBO’s Game of Thrones and she most recently starred in the film Catherine Called Birdy. Now, her new series is premiering this weekend.

Bella talked about her gender identity in a new profile for The New York Times.

“I guess my gender has always been very fluid,” Bella said. “Someone would call me ‘she’ or ‘her’ and I wouldn’t think about it, but I knew that if someone called me ‘he,’ it was a bit exciting.”

“I’m very much just a person,” she added. “Being gendered isn’t something that I particularly like, but in terms of pronouns, I really couldn’t care less.”

The reporter for the Times wrote, “Now, if she sees “nonbinary” as an option on a form, she will tick it.”

Bella shared the article to her Instagram page and thanked the outlet for “creat[ing] a safe space where I could be myself. I didn’t realise how grateful I was for that.”

In another recent interview, Bella talked about perfecting her American accent for the role.
