Brittney Griner Signs New Basketball Deal After Russian Imprisonment

Brittney Griner is heading back to the basketball court.

The 32-year-old athlete, who was famously held in a Russian jail for 10 months for drug possession charges a year ago, has inked a new deal with the WNBA, via Deadline.

Brittney signed a one-year deal with the Phoenix Mercury, according to AP.

The news comes after she was arrested an airport outside of Moscow, which made international headlines.

She last played for the Mercury in 2021 and helped the team head to the WNBA Finals, averaging 20.5 points and 9.5 rebounds that season.

She has largely stayed outside of the public spotlight, aside from appearances at the Super Bowl, the Phoenix Open, and an MLK Day event in Phoenix, Arizona, where she lives.

Find out what she had to say after being returned home from her imprisonment.
