Serena Williams was knocked out of the 2016 U.S. Open during the semi-finals round on Thursday night (September 8) at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City.
The 34-year-old tennis player lost the match to Czech player Karolina Pliskova, 6-2, 7-6.
This is the second year in a row that Serena has lost in the semi-finals following last year’s loss to Roberta Vinci.
Serena has been ranked number one for 186 weeks and when the new rankings are released on Monday, Angelique Kerber will land in the top spot, according to CNN.
