FX has decided to cancel the drama The Bridge after only two seasons on the air, TV Line reports.
The sophomore drama starred Diane Kruger and Demian Bichir in the title roles as two police detectives from different sides of the border who join forces to capture a serial killer threatening both countries.

The ratings had decreased in the second season that the show was on the air.

Diane Kruger‘s hit new television show The Bridge has been renewed for a second season by FX!
The 37-year-old actress’ show will continue next summer.
“We’ve been blown away by the compelling performances of Demian Bichir and Diane Kruger and the writing of Meredith Stiehm, Elwood Reid and their team, and are thrilled to be able to continue this journey for another season,” Eric Schrier, President of Original Programming for FX Networks and FX Productions, said in a statement. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with Rich Ross, Carolyn Bernstein and everyone at Shine America.”

Diane recently talked about why her boyfriend Joshua Jackson is jealous of her role on the show.
“He was actually very jealous. He was on a network sitcom, so his days were crazy long. A regular day would be 14 or 15 hours of shooting. Now, I’ve been home for dinner pretty much every night since we started the show, so he’s just a tad envious,” Diane told DuJour magazine in the August 2013 issue.

“It’s both exciting and it’s a little scary. Just the fact that I’m a woman has a lot of negativity about that. It’s much more acceptable for a man to be brusque and rude, and they think it’s charming,” Diane shared (via Huffington Post) about playing a woman who isn’t social adept on the show.

Diane Kruger‘s new series The Bridge kicked off last night and the premiere episode was seen by 3.04 million viewers, according to Deadline!
While it had a healthy debut for the FX network, the numbers are lower than the network’s recent series The Americans, which debuted on the same night and almost the same time slot back in January with 3.22 million viewers.
The Bridge follows a serial killer on the US/Mexican border and it also stars Demian Bichir. It airs on Wednesday nights at 10/9c on FX!
