Kelly Clarkson and Zac Efron are stars – and now, they’re being honored with one!

The American Idol winner and the High School Musical alum are among the celebrities to get a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame in 2021, the New York Times reported Thursday (June 18).

Benedict Cumberbatch, Shia LaBeouf, Missy Elliott and “American Pie” singer-songwriter Don McLean are also among the 35 stars of film, television and music that were announced for the honor by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

Other stars set to receive the honor next year are late opera singer Luciano Pavarotti and “Fences” playwright August Wilson, who will be given stars posthumously.

All star unveiling ceremonies were postponed amid the pandemic in mid-March. Six ceremonies will be rescheduled for a later date as a result.

Don McLean and his wife Patrisha have split after being married for 30 years.

The 70-year-old “American Pie” singer was arrested back in January on domestic violence charges and he has not been allowed to have contact with his wife since.

Patrisha cited “adultery, cruel and abusive treatment, and irreconcilable differences” in her divorce papers filed on Thursday (March 10). Her lawyer said that she has gained “strength and insight away from his influence and control” since their split.

Don‘s lawyer denies the claims and says he “cares very deeply about his wife and family,” according to THR.

Singer Don McLean has come forward with a statement on his Twitter account after being arrested earlier this week for domestic violence.

The 70-year-old singer, who is known for his song “American Pie,” wrote, “This last year and especially now have been hard emotional times for my wife my children and me. What is occurring is the very painful breakdown of an almost 30 year relationship. Our hearts are broken and we must carry on. There are no winners or losers but I am not a villain. I may never recover from this but I will try and hope to continue to entertain you all as I always have. I ask God to give us the strength to find new happiness and I hope people will realize that this will all be resolved but I hope I will not be judged in this frantic media environment.”

Don‘s wife reportedly took out an order of protection with the police after saying Don was “unfathomably deep and scary….Don terrorized me for four hours, until the 911 call that I think might have saved my life.” The police report also cited years of abuse, ABC News reports.

Don McLean, who is best known for writing the famous song “American Pie” back in 1971, was arrested for domestic violence assault on Monday (January 18) at his home in Camden, Maine.

Police reportedly responded to a 911 call at 2 AM and put the 70-year-old singer under arrest for the misdemeanor charge, TMZ reports. Don put up the $10,000 bail and has since been released.

Don will appear in Know County District Court next month on February 22 to respond to the charge.

No further information has been released at this time.
