Jack the Giant Slayer tops this weekend’s box office with $28 million grossed in its first week of release!

The fantasy adventure film stars Nicholas Hoult and Eleanor Tomlinson, and was up 57 percent from Friday to Saturday, according to THR.

Coming in at number two was Identity Thief with $9.7 million and a total of 107.7 million grossed so far.

Not far behind in third was the college comedy 21 and Over, starring Skylar Astin and Miles Teller, which brought in $9 million in its debut week.

Rounding out the top five were The Last Exorcism: Part II and Snitch bringing in $8 million and $7.7 million, respectively.

Nicholas Hoult attends the footprint ceremony for his new film Jack the Giant Slayer on Thursday (February 28) at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

The 23-year-old actor was joined at the unveiling by the film’s director Bryan Singer.

Jack the Giant Slayer follows the ancient war between humans and a race of giants, which is reignited when Jack (Hoult), a young farmhand fighting for a kingdom and the love of a princess (Eleanor Tomlinson), opens a gateway between the two worlds. The film is in theaters NOW!

The film tells the story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack (Hoult) into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend–and gets the chance to become a legend himself.

Jack the Giant Slayer also stars Ewan McGregor, Eleanor Tomlinson (No relation to Louis Tomlinson‘s girlfriend Eleanor!), Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, and Bill Nighy. The film hits theaters on March 1, 2013.
