Lilly Wachowski Confirms 'The Matrix' Is A Trans Story

Lilly Wachowski is finally confirmed that The Matrix is a trans story.

In a virtual interview this week with Netflix Film Club, the filmmaker, who directed the movie with sister Lana, confirmed the speculation about the true meaning of the flicks.

“I’m glad that it has gotten out that that was the original intention,” she shared. “But the world wasn’t quite ready for it — the corporate world wasn’t ready for it.”

Lilly adds, “I’m glad that people are talking about the Matrix movies with a trans narrative; I love how meaningful those films are to trans people, and the way that they come up to me and say ‘these movies saved my life.’”

“I’m grateful to be able to throw them a rope to help them on their journey.”

Lilly went on, saying that “The Matrix stuff was all about the desire for transformation — but it was all coming from a closeted point of view” and even revealed that the character of Switch, was originally meant to be male in the real world but female inside the Matrix.

“That’s both where our head spaces were,” she said.

During the conversation, Lilly said the movie was born out of “rage.”

“[The Matrix was] born out of a lot of anger and a lot of rage, and it’s rage at capitalism and corporatized structure and forms of oppression. [The] bubbling, seething rage within me was about my own oppression, that I [was forcing] myself to remain in the closet,” she said.

If you don’t know, Lilly came out as transgender following the film’s release.

“Now that I’m out and a living example of someone who can grow old being a trans woman, [trans people] can see those films through the lens of my transness and their transness. They’re able to go, ‘Oh my God, these films were such an important part of my coming out and my own journey.’ I’m extraordinarily grateful that I could offer that to people.”

She recently called out these stars for their “Red Pill” tweets…

'Matrix' Creator Lilly Wachowski Calls Out Ivanka Trump & Elon Musk For 'Red Pill' Tweets

Lilly Wachowski is calling out both Elon Musk and first daughter Ivanka Trump for using a reference to The Matrix and relating it to the coronavirus pandemic.

It started when Elon tweeted “Take the red pill 🌹,” and Ivanka retweeted his post, adding, “Taken”.

If you’ve seen the movie, you know that Morpheus tells Neo that he’s been living in a computer simulation and offers him two choices – the blue pill, which will let him go back to his life and forget about everything; or the red pill, which let’s Neo learn the truth about the Matrix and the fake reality.

Lilly wasn’t happy with the two referencing the movie that she helped to create.

“F*** both of you,” she responded to the tweets.

Later on though, Lilly turned the viral reaction into a call to action, and asked those retweeting on their own to donate to Brave Space Alliance.

This other major star wasn’t happy with President Donald Trump using his voice for propoganda, either.
