Blu-Ray/DVD Releases Today
The Good Dinosaur – With almost all Disney/Pixar films, we have to say it again and again – but The Good Dinosaur is another shining example of a great animated film, a worthy addition to the Pixar family. The new film, which is released on shelves today, follows a young dinosaur who is in search of his way home while overcoming his fears.
The new film really flips the animal/human dynamic on its head by giving the dinosaur protagonist, Arlo, a pet-like human being named Spot. Through their adventure, the film effortlessly shares the deeper meaning behind the story with family values, trust, and living for something beyond yourself. Unlike other animated Dinosaur classics, these dinosaurs have also evolved and we see parallels drawn to the American frontier.
Like all Disney Blu-Rays, the film looks spectacular. Several scenes from the film really make the crisp 1080p transfer shine, from the waters of a river, to a flock of millions of birds. The DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 lossless soundtrack also rounds out this superb offering with great sound and poignant music.
As with all Pixar films, The Good Dinosaur featured an animated short at the beginning of the film. This time, the film included an adventure between father and son called “Sanjay’s Super Team”, which is also included in the Blu-Ray. Other extras include a feature called Recyclosaurus which gives an interesting inside look of the Pixar building as their staff recreate a dinosaur using recycled material. A brief look into how the team understood dinosaurs (True Lies About Dinosaurs), the filmmaking process (The Filmmaker’s Journey), and how a cattle ranch inspired parts of the film (Following the T-Rex Trail) are also included in this release. Deleted Scenes, a cute clip called Dino Bites, and some hide and seek shenanigans with Arlo round out the extra features.
The film hits shelves and Digital HD today and is a solid pickup for the family.
