Matthew Centrowitz has become the first U.S. athlete since 1908 to win gold at an Olympic 1500m on Saturday (August 20) at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics!
The 26-year-old track and field athlete finished with a time of 3 minutes, 50.00 seconds.
“My goal was just to get on the podium,” Matthew told NBC. “I didn’t ever dream of actually winning.”
Taoufik Makhloufi of Algeria took home the silver medal – crossing the finish line .11 seconds later – and Nick Willis of New Zealand took home the bronze.
