After being fired by Disney for resurfaced offensive tweets, director James Gunn may have just landed a new job in Hollywood.

Deadline reports that the 52-year-old director has been hired by Warner Bros. to write Suicide Squad 2. He also may direct the second DC Universe film. The first Suicide Squad movie hit theaters in 2016.

James was fired back in July from his job with the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. He later received support from the Guardians cast to be rehired.

No official word from Warner Bros. or James Gunn just yet about his possible new gig.

Suicide Squad 2 has finally found its director!

After months of speculation, Gavin O’Connor has signed on to write and direct the upcoming sequel to the 2016 hit villain film, THR reports.

Stars from the first film including Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Jared Leto are all set to return for the sequel.

It was reported earlier this summer that Mel Gibson was in talks to direct the sequel, but it looks like plans fell through.

Gavin recently directed The Accountant starring Ben Affleck and Natalie Portman in Jane Got a Gun.

No word yet on when Suicide Squad 2 will begin filming.

Chris Pratt stars in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and weighed in on one of the DC Entertainment movies, Suicide Squad.

“I really like all the Warner Bros. movies,” the 37-year-old actor told io9. “I think they’re really cool and I’m not a real tough critic on those movies. But one of the flaws might have been they were introducing too many characters in Suicide Squad. They spent 10 minutes telling us why should we care about these characters, rather than creating trilogies for each character and convincing us to care about the characters.”

Guardians of the Galaxy is set to debut on May 5. Suicide Squad starred Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Will Smith, and more.

Mel Gibson is in very early talks to take on the role of director for an upcoming Suicide Squad sequel, according to THR.

The 61-year-old actor and director would be taking over for David Ayers, who directed the first flick.

Sources say that Mel is currently familiarizing himself with the film’s material but Warner Brothers is pursuing the relationship.

The original Suicide Squad film was a hit, starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto, and grossed $745 million worldwide.

Mel mostly recently directed the Oscar-nominated war movie Hacksaw Ridge, which has made $164 million worldwide.

Margot Robbie is officially going to play Harley Quinn again in the upcoming movie Gotham City Sirens, which will be directed by David Ayer.

The 26-year-old actress is teaming up with David again after working together on this summer’s hit film Suicide Squad.

Gotham City Sirens will follow some of the top female villains in the DC Comics franchise and other villainesses featured in the comic book series included Catwoman and Poison Ivy, according to THR.

Margot was the clear stand-out of the Suicide Squad movie, which grossed over $745 million at the worldwide box office this summer.

Suicide Squad is getting an extended cut version – and fans are wondering if we’ll finally see all those Jared Leto Joker scenes that were filmed, but didn’t make it into the theatrical version.

The announcement was made via a promo video on Twitter. The movie will be available on Digital HD on November 15 and Blu-ray on December 13.

“Honestly, there may be six or seven different versions of the film,” director David Ayer previously told Empire about the movie. “In that version, [test] audiences were left with a lot of questions and a little disoriented as to who to watch and why. So we came up with what we call the ‘dossier’ version, which has Amanda [Viola Davis] presenting the backstories and origins of the various members.”

Suicide Squad once again took the No. 1 box office spot this weekend with an additional $20.7 million gross!

According to THR, the film – starring Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, and more – has raked in a domestic total $262.3 million so far.

Coming in second place was Seth Rogen‘s new animated comedy Sausage Party, which brought in $15.3 million for a 10-day domestic total of $65.9 million.

Taking third was Miles Teller and Jonah Hill‘s new flick War Dogs, debuting to $14.3 million.

Rounding out the top five were Kubo and the Two Strings and Ben-Hur, which earned $12.6 million and $11.4 million, respectively.
