Top 10 World's Highest-Paid Tennis Players of 2023 Revealed, No. 1 Made Nearly $40 Million!

The numbers are in!

Forbes has gathered the data for the highest-paid tennis players of 2023.

And while Roger Federer has long been No. 1 since 2007, his retirement last September meant that another player is now in the top spot. (Serena Williams was also deemed ineligible due to her apparent retirement last year.)

In total, the ten highest-paid players brought in $196 million over the past 12 months, a 38% drop from last year’s $316 million total, and a 43% decline from 2020’s record $343 million, largely due to the loss of Roger and Serena on the chart.

The figures are broken down by on the court (prize money) and off the court, including endorsement deals, appearance fees, and licensing and memorabilia income.

Eight of this year’s top ten are still under 30, which means they’ve still got a long way to go!

Prince George and Princess Charlotte joined their parents Prince William and Princess Catherine (aka Kate Middleton) at Wimbledon over the weekend, and they sat somewhere that children are generally not allowed – the Royal Box.

The young royals had a prime seat at the event, where Carlos Alcaraz emerged victorious.

However, you might be surprised to learn that the Royal Box isn’t solely reserved for royals. As a result, there are some rules about who are allowed to sit in it, and children generally do not make the cut.

Carlos Alcaraz's Wimbledon Win Scores Him A Second Grand Slam

Carlos Alcaraz lifts the Men’s Singles Finals Trophy following his victory against Novak Djokovic at the 2023 Wimbledon Tennis Championships on Sunday (July 16) in London, England.

“You’ve won [the Queens grass tennis tournament],” an interviewer said of Spain’s Carlos, 20, after the match. “Now you won Wimbledon. You seem to be developing a very strong relationship with grass.”

“I have fallen in love with grass right now,” he laughed.

Carlos only had the best of things to say about Serbia’s Novak: “You inspire me a lot. I started playing tennis, watching you, since I was born, you already were winning tournaments. It’s amazing. You said 36 is the new 26 and you made that happen.”

Princess Catherine presented Carlos with his trophy after his win.

King Felipe VI of Spain was in the crowd to support Carlos.

“I played in front of you just twice,” Carlos said of his lucky charm. “Twice that I won, I hope you are coming more. (laughs)”

Carlos dethroned Novak in a five-hour match that went to five sets, 1-6, 7-6 (6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.

Carlos is the first player to win Wimbledon in 20 years outside of Novak, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Andy Murray. He’s also the youngest man to win the title since 1986 when Boris Becker won at age 17.

Carlos Alcaraz Dethrones Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon Tennis Finals

Carlos Alcaraz is #1 – and here to stay!

The 20-year-old Spaniard defeated Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, 36, on Sunday (July 16) during a historic men’s finals tennis match at London’s The Championships, commonly known simply as Wimbledon.

The five-hour match went to five sets, 1-6, 7-6 (6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.

Carlos ended Novak’s undefeated 15-consecutive tiebreak streak during the second set and even won an epic 13-deuce 27-minute game in the third set.

This is a huge turn in tennis history as Novak is a seven-time Wimbledon champion, was on a 34 match winning streak, and hasn’t lost a match on Centre Court since the 2013 final against Andy Murray. Novak was also gunning for another win to add to his 23 Grand Slam men’s singles titles, the most major titles won by a male player in history.

Carlos, who won his first grand slam title at the 2022 US Open, lost to Novak in the French Open semifinals last month after cramping because of nerves. Sweet revenge!

In the star-studded stands to watch this historic moment in tennis history were Brad Pitt, Ariana Grande, Emma Watson, Andrew Garfield, Nick Jonas, Hugh Jackman, Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz, Lily James, Idris Elba, Ian McKellen, Tessa Thompson, Imogen Poots, Jonathan Bailey, Tom Hiddleston, Zawe Ashton, Daniel Bruhl, Prince William, Princess Catherine, Prince George, and Princess Charlotte.
