Tennis Teenage Sensation Carlos Alcaraz Hits the Practice Court Before Big Miami Open Match

Carlos Alcaraz hits some tennis balls ahead of his match with USA’s top tennis player Taylor Fritz during the Miami Open tournament on Thursday (March 30) held at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.

The 19-year-old Spanish tennis player practiced his serve a lot, which has improved a lot over the last year.

“When I [started training with my coach Juan Carlos Ferrero], everybody [knew that I had] to improve my serve,” Carlos shared during his press conference. “I had problems [with] my abs a long time ago, so I couldn’t practice the serve as much as I wanted.”

He added, “But [when my abs started healing, I started] to practice the serve a little bit more. It was something that we were really focused on. We knew that the serve was really, really important [in] tennis, so I [needed] to improve a lot, and I think I have a good serve [now].”

Carlos plays his friendly rival, Italy’s Jannik Sinner, tomorrow at the semi-finals! He was spotted practicing two courts over from Carlos, who waved goodbye to Jannik when he left. Pictured in the gallery is Jannik taking a breather from practice!

19-Year-Old Tennis Phenom Carlos Alcaraz Continues 10 Match Winning Streak, Defeats Taylor Fritz at Miami Open Quarterfinals

Teenage tennis phenom Carlos Alcaraz defeats USA’s top-ranked player Taylor Fritz during the Miami Open tournament quarterfinals on Thursday (March 30) held at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.

This was the 19-year-old Spaniard’s 10th match win in a row!

“The return [of serve] was the key [to winning this] match,” Carlos said during the post-match press conference. “I took my chances. I took the opportunity of every break point that I had.”

As for why Taylor thought he lost the match, he shared, “The first game, I got broken in the match, but I felt like after that, I played very well for the rest of the set. He didn’t have any more chances to break me. I had chances to break him. I felt like going into the second set, I had a really good chance.”

“Then I just threw away my serve again to start the second set,” Taylor added. “So that was extremely demoralizing because now I’m playing another set from behind. It’s just more off of my mistakes. Obviously playing the best player in the world, you can’t just drop your serve to start both sets.”

Carlos plays his friendly foe, Jannik Sinner of Italy, tomorrow during the semi-finals. This will be their sixth time facing each other!

Jamie Foxx Cheers on Rising Tennis Star Christopher Eubanks at Miami Open, Daniil Medvedev Advances to Semi-Finals

Jamie Foxx sits front row as he cheers on USA’s rising tennis star Christopher Eubanks at the Miami Open tournament held at the Hard Rock Stadium on Thursday (March 30) in Miami Gardens Fla.

The American lost out to Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in two straight sets, 6-3, 7-5.

Tomorrow, Daniil will face off against his friend, fellow Russian Karen Khachanov, who beat out Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo, 6-3, 6-2.

“[Karen and I] have known each other [for] a long time,” Daniil shared at his post-match conference. “We are exactly the same age group. So starting from all the young tournaments, we played together. I remember that just before the under-14 age group, he was actually not one of the best in Russia. I was not the best one also. Maybe a little bit higher ranked than him. Then he went really fast up. He got a few wildcards, beat a few top guys when he was like 15 or 16. So, yeah, he had a good rise. We had a good rise together to the ATP Tour. We already achieved a lot. It’s great. You know, we still spend time together. We are great friends, and I feel like we respect each other a lot.”
