Usain Bolt Places First in 200m, Justin Gatlin Fails to Advance

Usain Bolt puts his hands over his mouth after competing in the Men’s 200m Semifinals during the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics at the Olympic Stadium on Wednesday (August 17) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Unfortunately, Team U.S.A. member Justin Gatlin finished in third, one spot shy of qualifying for the final.

“It’s a showman’s sport’” Justin said (via USA Today). “I think the rivalry that I have with Usain and myself has turned it into a professional-wrestling feel. You know, everyone’s cheering for Usain but they have to have someone they’ve got to boo against.’”

Ellen DeGeneres Responds to Controversial Usain Bolt Meme

Ellen DeGeneres has sent out a tweet about the Usain Bolt meme she posted earlier in the week, which has been called out for being insensitive and racist.

The 58-year-old comedian posted a photo of the 29-year-old champion runner sprinting at the Olympics, and she inserted herself holding onto his back. The caption read, “This is how I’m running errands from now on. #Rio2016.” You can see the photo here on her Twitter account.

“I am highly aware of the racism that exists in our country. It is the furthest thing from who I am,” Ellen tweeted in response later.

Usain has so far won three gold medals total at the Olympics, and one so far in Rio.

Usain Bolt's Olympics Status in Limbo After Hamstring Injury

Usain Bolt has faced a setback in his journey to the 2016 Rio Olympics after injuring his hamstring during the Jamaican national championships.

The 29-year-old sprinter, who has won six gold medals at the Olympics over the years, scratched out of the Olympic trials following the injury.

“After feeling discomfort in my hamstring after the first round last night and then again in the semi-final tonight I was examined by the Chief Doctor of the National Championships and diagnosed with a Grade 1 tear,” Usain tweeted. “I have submitted a medical exemption to be excused from the 100m final and the remainder of the National Championships. I will seek treatment immediately and hope to show fitness at the London Anniversary Games on July 22 to earn selection for the Olympic Games in Rio.”

We’ll have to wait for the London games later this month to see if Usain qualifies!
