Ben Affleck Wins DGA Award 2013 Despite Oscar Snub

Ben Affleck shows off his prize in the press room at the 2013 Directors Guild of America Awards held in the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland on Saturday (February 2) in Los Angeles.

The 40-year-old actor beat out Steven Spielberg, Ang Lee, Kathryn Bigelow, and Tom Hooper for the honor despite the fact he was snubbed of an Oscar nomination.

“I don’t think this makes me a real director, but I think I am on my way,” Ben said during his acceptance speech.

Earlier in the evening, Ben, in a Gucci tux, and his wife Jennifer Garner walked the red carpet separately.

    That is one pretty cool looking coin / award. I think I’d like that better than a statue.

    I’m glad he’s not nominated for an Oscar. That means a better director can win. Hopefully Michael Haneke.

    @Rupert Sanders: Ignoramus. He should be nominated although. I am not from his pr team, but I’ve seen Argo, and he was really great. Stop hate.

    i think the oscar voters are going to give him the opotutinty on his next film. the guy did a good job on argo and the guy is a good director. yes he did a lot of crap earlier in his career but the guy is getting better. but he’s got to stay away from kevin smith movies then i will see more of his new work.

    It´s great Ben won the DGA, it means his peers appreciate his amazing work on Argo. It´s such a shame he is not nominated for a oscar.

    who cares the novelty of an oscar wears off in five minutes at least Jennifer Garner doesn’t have the clout to threaten to leave the academy in protest like Joanne Woodward did in 1969 when Paul Newman wasn’t nominated for best director for Rachel Rachel. of course when cooler heads prevailed she didn’t resign and is still a member now though not active she hasn’t voted since Paul was last nominated in 2003

    While all the directors that were nominated are worthy , so are a few more that were left out . Ben isn’t the only director who was overlooked even though their films are up for best picture. Go figure. It is because ten film are nominated but only five directors can get a spot. Who is the “Better director” at this level of talent is a matter of personal choice.

    @mimignyc:
    The Oscar may start losing credibility when it continues to overlook great performances and continues to give Oscars to silly movies and actors like it did last year. Brad Pitt should have won for Moneyball, and there were far better films last year than the novelty that won.
