Randy Jackson Leaving 'American Idol' After This Season

Randy Jackson has confirmed that the current twelfth season of American Idol will be his final one on the show.

The 56-year-old judge is the only one on the panel that has been there from the beginning and his departure comes right after reports surfaced saying that next season will see an entirely new group of judges.

“Yo! Yo! Yo! To put all of the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on American Idol I have decided it is time to leave after this season,” Randy told E! News. “I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It’s been a life changing opportunity but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures.”

Total spin. He was fired and thrown out kicking and screaming.

Randy was the smart one- knew not to rock the boat and the gig was easy money. But after 12 years, nothing lasts forever, and given the plummet in ratings, the suits and fox probably wanted to shake things up with a new setup of judges. I wish Randy nothing but the best.

Whatever the outcome- American Idol has run its course and will be like millionaire- there but nobody really cares.

I hope that Fox puts it to bed soon in the coming years and not unnecessarily drag it on once the talent has been sucked out the show like the Simpsons or Family Guy

I’ve been watching American Idol since day one so it will be a bit sad to see Randy go because he’s been there since the beginning.

I agree with everybody else that American Idol has gotten a bit stale the last few years. But things next year might be fun with all new judges and other changes.

Randy Jackson was part of the original elite group of judges. Unless they bring Paula and Simon back I don’t see much hope for American Idol. The ratings are in free fall. This season’s judges were horrible. It brought the show down and it forced some viewers like me to start watching the Voice instead of American Idol.

People don’t want smart judges. They want mean judges who will rip the singers apart and send them over the edge. Nicki Manaj and Mariah Carry ruined this season. Get rid of them and keep Randy.

Keep Keith Urban and then a little less color with the other judges.

They should just cancel the show now that all the original judges are gone. They’ll never get their high ratings back even with new judges.

The format of the show is terrible. The producers are obviously worthless to have allowed the cat fight between Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj to destroy the show. And, FOX network showed a complete lack of character by grandstanding with an announcement that no contracts would be renewed for next year; this being done just prior to the last two shows. The victims of this year’s colossal collapse were the contestants, and Keith Urban, who had been put in a horrible situation and still managed to be a very good judge.
