The Bachelor's Juan Pablo Galavis Apologizes for His Anti-Gay Remarks

Juan Pablo Galavis just took to Facebook to release an apology for his comments on gay people.

“I want to apologize to all the people I may have offended because of my comments on having a Gay or Bisexual Bachelor. The comment was taken out of context. If you listen to the entire interview, there’s nothing but respect for Gay people and their families,” the 32-year-old Bachelor star shared.

He added, “I have many gay friends and one of my closest friends who’s like a brother has been a constant in my life especially during the past 5 months. The word pervert was not what I meant to say and I am very sorry about it.”

Juan closed the apology by saying, “Everyone knows English is my second language and my vocabulary is not as broad as it is in Spanish and, because of this, sometimes I use the wrong words to express myself. What I meant to say was that gay people are more affectionate and intense and for a segment of the TV audience this would be too racy to accept. The show is very racy as it is and I don’t let my 5 year old daughter watch it. Once again, I’m sorry for how my words were taken. I would never disrespect anyone.”

Earlier in the day, The Bachelor producers responded to the gay comments by saying, “Juan Pablo‘s comments were careless, thoughtless and insensitive, and in no way reflect the views of the network, the show’s producers or studio.”

WHAT DO YOU THINK about Juan Pablo Galavis’ apology for his gay comments?

All I read is excuses. -.-

I’m not sure how I feel about his comments because we all should be entitled to our opinions but it just felt like for a gay person, his comments were offensive.

  • MimiV

I think he said what he meant and felt, which is very unfortunate and intolerant.

The show is completely unsuitable for children as it is. It’s a perverted idea that women should fight amongst themselves to compete for the sexual attentions of one man. The whole premise of the show is twisted.

  • Really????

Why does he need to apologize for his opinion!!?? I am soooooo sick of this crap!!

  • lala

yeah, just use the language excuse and say “i have a lot of gay friends”

  • lola2014

It’s too late, me thinks. We already know what he REALLY think , unfiltered. Also, he says his english is poor but this “apology” seems like it’s in pretty well-written english to me, so he shouldn’t be throwing around that excuse. He knew what he was saying (pervert is nearly the same in spanish) so don’t blame the language barrier now. Maybe he should get his publicist/whoever wrote this to always speak for as well if he wants to continue being a “celebrity’..

  • allison

@Really????: He doesn’t need to apologize but he wants to stay on the show and get paid and he isn’t Duck Dynasty so he apologized.
BTW the sentence “some of my best friends” needs to be stricken from any apologies given. Because if you really cared about those “friends” then those words would never come out of your mouth.

  • toopointoh

    What an idiot! lol

  • jane

I’m sorry but no matter how he worded it, he does not believe gay people should be on the show and that’s bigoted. A show, btw, that is degrading to women but I guess that’s okay?

Juan Pablo´s excuse is irrelevant. The fact that English is his second language does not excuse homophobic bigotry.

  • mike

Guess what people are entitled to their opinions. I find what he said ignorant and I disagree but I’m not going to sit here and try to change his mind. If that’s what he believes he has the right and can say whatever he wants. It’s free speech, he wasn’t saying kill gay people. So what if people are offended. People will always be offended by something. I think our country has become to over sensitive. Who cares what a guy thinks who has t o find a gf on reality tv.

  • unlingua

Remove him. End his role. Get him OUT.

On the most fierce moral issue of our generation, he is backwards, bigoted, irredeemable.

  • Joelle

What a wuss. If you’re afraid to stand up to what you believe, you should just stop talking all together. It wasn’t necessary to make the comment he did, but once it was out there he shouldn’t cave to pressure. This is why people are becoming so angry, they can’t voice an opinion without having their their livelihood threatened. Gays are way too sensitive and their supporters. Why is merely saying you don’t agree isn’t good enough? No, you have to berate the man, call him names, threaten his job. It’s the classic response of a mob.

  • RC

He is totally entitled to his opinion, I’m also entitled to have mine of him and his stupid ass show. I think he is a famewhore who would jump at any oportunity to be on tv, even if it is to be on the stipidest show on earth. A show that couldn’t be more degrading to humans and sets the worst example to children. I only wish him and that “so called” tv show would desappear from televisions forever… Also, Juan Pablo, excusing yourself saying that english is not your first language is actually degrading to you. So you know the word “racy” but don’t know “pervert”? right!!! Don’t blame language barrier, or get out of american television.

  • Marion

@Joelle: while your right Juan is right to his own opinion and should stand by that opinion for better or worse let’s not pretend as if he’s some victim he’s an ignorant fame seeker just as most bachelor’s “looking for love” the simple fact is no ones being overly sensitive in one fell swoop he generalized an entire group of ppl with the tag lines “think of the children” and well I have lots of “insert minority group or homosexual group here” friends it was extremely PERVERTED that someone with so called homosexual friends could walk around with such feelings of disgust and think its ok. In life you won’t like what everyone has to say but when ppl are ignorant and intolerant based solely on THEIR idea of who a person is or how they act without any exposure or prior association to the ppl or group their condemning its complete and utterly unseemly.

  • mdc

Sorry Dude. Your accent comes and goes, so I’m not buying the whole “English is my second language” line.
