Third 'Hobbit' Film 'There and Back Again' Renamed to 'Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies'

The third The Hobbit film in the series has just undergone a name change from The Hobbit: There and Back Again to The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies!

“When we did the premiere trip late last year, I had a quiet conversation with the studio about the idea of revisiting the title. We decided to keep an open mind until a cut of the film was ready to look at. We reached that point last week, and after viewing the movie, we all agreed there is now one title that feels completely appropriate,” director Peter Jackson wrote on his Facebook account. “And so: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies it is.”

“As Professor Tolkien intended, ‘There and Back Again’ encompasses Bilbo’s entire adventure, so don’t be surprised if you see it used on a future box-set of all three movies,” Peter added.

The third film stars Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly, Martin Freeman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Cate Blanchett, Luke Evans, Richard Armitage, and many more.

    “Battle of the Five Armies”… yeesh, that is terrible. Cheesy and commercial sounding. Keep the original!

    As a LOTR fan, I think it would have been better to seal the whole deal with the original title “There and back again”. Because I feel that highlighting one event of the story (the battle of the five army) will not attract as many people.. I don’t know.. Something’s just not right. Maybe I’m being too much of a fan. Anyway, I can’t wait to watch it though. Any LOTR related movie is a blessing :p

    Should be epic! I like the change.
    Not that the name really matters. People would flock to this movie no matter what they call it!
    Can’t wait to see Legolas and Thranduil kicking Orc butt in battle!

    I don’t care if they call it “Hobbits vs. Hogwarts in ‘Beach Blanket Bat-Sh|t’”: I’m still gonna go see it!

    And Lady Galadriel should kick some a$$! I think she was destroy Dol Guldur! You know, the place where Gandalf was captured.

    @Mia: Yeah Galadriel will totally own! And purify the mirkwood forest. Best characther in all of the films. Well if not counting Legolas, who will look so amazingly beautiful we need paper towels to clean the drool. ;c

    @10 Says:

    Well, the white council doesn’t really purify the forest. They don’t get rid of the orcs and spiders. But they do get the Necromancer (Sauron) to move south. Which helps the forest a lot.
    I can’t wait to see all if the elves kick @ss.

    Disappointing. Jackson seems obsessed with battles–there’s so much more depth to Tolkien’s work than battle scenes. I don’t think the movies have to be “just like the books,” they shouldn’t be. And yet there’s a lot of great material being missed when you focus so much on “action” and “battles.”
