Ryan Gosling Wanted to Kick Rachel McAdams Off 'The Notebook' Set!

Director Nick Cassavetes is opening up about some turmoil on The Notebook set between stars Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling.

“Maybe I’m not supposed to tell this story, but they were really not getting along one day on set. Really not,” Nick told Vh1. “And Ryan came to me, and there’s 150 people standing in this big scene, and he says, ‘Nick come here.’ And he’s doing a scene with Rachel and he says, ‘Would you take her out of here and bring in another actress to read off camera with me?’ I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘I can’t. I can’t do it with her. I’m just not getting anything from this.”

“We went into a room with a producer; they started screaming and yelling at each other. I walked out,” he added. “At that point I was smoking cigarettes. I smoked a cigarette and everybody came out like, ‘All right let’s do this.’ And it got better after that, you know? They had it out.” According to the 55-year-old filmmaker, “I think Ryan respected her for standing up for her character and Rachel was happy to get that out in the open. The rest of the film wasn’t smooth sailing, but it was smoother sailing.”

The Notebook recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary of its release.

Ryan Gosling is a pretentious douchebag. I am glad his career is going downhill. His obsession with playing “tough guys” is laughable.

LOL! Well, there you go. Two young kids who couldn’t tell they were in love so they misinterpreted their feelings as something else.

Ryan Gosling is far from a douchebag or a jerk. Quite the contrary. He is more on the gentleman, geeky, introvert, private, anti-Hollywood type. He sometimes seeks roles that put him out of his comfort zone — and that’s fine with me. I wish him continued success.

On a side note, they were indeed young and probably confused about their feelings about each other — that is not to say they need to be together now. Sometimes, people outgrow each other and simply seek different types of lives.

I’ve heard before about how much they disliked each other during filming but I didn’t realise it was that bad. Crazy they ended up falling in love.

From what I understand they filmed the post-war/housebuilding scenes first and during that the two of them were not really friendly or getting along.
Then they went home for christmas or something and when they came back there was a change in the relationship. Almost like they had really hashed everything out and were able to film all the young summer in love stuff easily.
This came from the commentary on the DVD.

So who knows maybe after really getting it all out there they did fall in love.

    Really old news…

The director giving this interview probably sat down with a focus group to determine which “new story” would attract the most clicks…

Gosling and McAdam have both spoken about fights and screaming on set before…

Yep…10 year anniversary DVD coming out…there you go.

The story’s sweet but nothing new. The writer got 1 million advance for the book and probably at least 600K for the film rights.

    @lol:

They dated later on. Apparently everyone who worked on the movie was surprised because they didn’t get along during filming.

He’s probably typecast. That’s not really his fault.

    Oh Yeah!!! Says:

This movie is so boring and predictable. Dont know why people think it is a classic! Didn’t feel the love between the two of them in character either.
