It’s so funny that shows like The O.C. and Glee were HUGE for FOX and got millions and millions of viewers before those viewers just fell off because the storylines went sour/lame and the stars wanted to do other things…and then the show got the axe. The fans of those shows always looked down on One Tree Hill and yet that show lasted almost 10 seasons, and the only reason it ended was because the cast didn’t want to renew. As a fan of the show, I’m aware that OTH had some lame storylines and towards the end it wasn’t as good as it was in the beginning, but I dare you to name one classified “teen drama” that hasn’t. The fact is that Glee was like some sort of TV movement and yet it couldn’t even last a full six seasons. It goes to show that if your show is on The CW, it can have more longevity with help from their fans…but big networks like FOX, NBC and ABC could care less about fan dedication. When it’s not beneficial to the network anymore..bye-bye.

These days when a show is a HUGE hit for FOX or NBC, ect…those cast members should get EVERYTHING they can out of the first two seasons …endorsements…record deals…because by season 3..people start leaving…the writers just try to recapture the first season…and before you know it, you’re on a show ‘that should’ve ended a long time ago.’

@Jen: I actually don’t think that it was just a hit show that went bad. I believe that the subject of the show didn’t have a six season life span. It’s difficult to handle two different worlds, the high school world and the real life one as well. Plus Cory’s death made everything worse. He was sort of the glue that held the two worlds together and with him gone it was difficult to balance things. And it just made everything sadder, the viewer didn’t have the same joy watching it anymore. It cast a long shadow.

I totally agree with you! Not only some fans but also the producers(Ryan Murphy and the OTH reference by Brittany on the first season of glee).
At least One Tree Hill tried to stay true to the fans.

  • Jamie

@Jen, No the reason OTH didn’t go past 9 seasons was a combination of ratings continuing to decline, the unlikelihood of it being renewed for a season 10 and cast members choosing not to renews.

  • Jen

@Jamie: Yes, you’re right…I didn’t proof read my comment lol. It was mainly the cast who didn’t want to renew (especially Sophia because she wanted to do other projects), but it was also a decline in ratings…but it wasn’t the ratings that put the axe on it because The CW was actually going to renew it again but with another 10-13 episodes for season 10 and the actors felt like that would’ve been really wearing out their welcome to have two seasons with very little episodes so they left it at the 13 episodes for season 9. The CW was going to give them another season despite the lower ratings.

  • Jen

@Liz: I know Glee had the factor of Cory, but I was more-so referring to Glee, The OC and other shows like that on major networks that ‘blow up’ and then fizzle quick. I wasn’t only singling out Glee.

GLEE died when they became Fame-Lite. I didn’t even finish last season, watched about 10 episodes but it hasn’t been my Glee for 2 years now. They should have stuck with the new kids and just did a spinoff with the NYC bunch. Besides Lea’s characters dream was to become lead of Glee until she got it, then she wanted Miagy [??] until she got it, then she wanted Funny Girl until she got it and now appears to be going for a television show. What??
