Jared Padalecki & Jensen Ackles Talk the End of 'Supernatural'

Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles are all smiles while sitting on a panel for their long-running series Supernatural during The CW’s portion of the 2014 TCA Summer Press Tour on Friday (July 18) at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The guys, joined by producer Jeremy Carver, both revealed their thoughts on when the series should end.

Jared: “If the show quality diminishes, which I have no doubt that it will not in [Carver's] capable hands, but if the show ever reaches a spot where we get a phone call, ‘You know what guys, we feel what needs to be said has been said’ [then I'd stop] … I truly do deeply care about the show and about Sam Winchester. I’m 32 years old tomorrow and I spent 9 years of my life with him, and so I don’t want him to be broken down and beaten down into something that I end up not respecting. I respect this character and this show and the writers and my fellow actors and actresses. I think we know the show enough, our characters enough, that if there’s an end coming I think we’ll all see it and we don’t have to push it to the ‘I Love LA’ levels. I’ve got some kids now and a wife. I love my personal life very, very much and when it’s time to hang up the Sam Winchester hat, I’ll welcome that chapter.”

Jensen: “I think we’re all on the same page. We still get excited by it and I think that that hasn’t tarnished in 10 years. And I remember getting the last script of season 9, the season finale, and I got all giddy about it. I was excited to see what happens in season 10. I think as long as there’s that fulfillment, that enjoyment, that excitement, then, yeah, we will keep going, as long as people are hanging in with us and are still entertained. We love these stories.”

    Vendetta Chronicles Says:

Supernatural lacks all the elements that made the series great at the beginning and a lot of it may have to do with the fact that Kripke is no longer at the helm. They killed off most of the great characters (good and evil).

If the series does continue, they need to go back to making demons scarier, not funny and silly. The angel storyline needs to end already. It ruined the show, especially when the angels started being weaker and easy to kill.

I’m tired of the conflict with Sam and Dean, especially when a lot of the behavior they’ve been displaying since season 6 are so unlike the original characters in season 1 through 5.

They should bring back Adam and avoid crappy filler episodes related to vampires, werewolves, or silly monsters. It’s not to say that they shouldn’t use monster storylines, but concentrate on urban legends which are frightening.

    Kelana Says:

They should explore the possibility that past demons like Ruby, Meg and old yellow eyes are stuck in purgatory but can be released. The characters deserve a second chance to terrorize the boys.

Also, introduce more hunters but don’t kill em off.

What happened to Missouri the psychic? Oh and can they bring back the black female hunter from the season 3 premiere? She looked cool.

Supernatural is the only long-running TV series that I have watched from the beginning to where it is now. I own 8 of the seasons on DVD. At the same time, I have never watched a single episode of Breaking Bad or Mad Men. Meeting Jared & Jensen is on my bucket list. I know that they will get other roles or start directing when their show ends. They will always be in demand no matter what. Jared has already been in Friday The 13th and some other films. Jensen was on Days & Dawson’s Creek before Supernatural. Although I have never met them, they feel like brothers to me…if that makes any sense. To me watching Supernatural is like eating a comfort food. No matter what happens, it was a refreshing change from vampires– which have been done to death in 5 other shows and tons of movies.

Supernatural can be a fun show to watch, but it seems like they’ve had the same plot for a few years. End of world coming, one brother sacrifices himself, end of world averted and brother comes back to life.
They need to find a year long or half a year long story arc that is something new. Maybe a “hit” put out on the brothers with all sort of monsters trying to find and kill them for a prize and they have to be on the run. Being chased instead of being the chasers.

    Rene' Rowland Says:

This show always reminds me there is someone worse off then me. I watch this show every day with friends and sometimes with family. Sometimes I think it is more sad then scary. I too would like to go back to just monster hunting. I get tired of all the politics too. I guess after 9 years I’m still hangin for the ride and i am a 63 year old Gramma.

I wish they didn’t do 23 episode seasons. At this late in the series run, the demon of the week plot are becoming stale. I would much prefer 16 episode seasons. It was good in the early seasons, but now I’d rather see a change.
