James Holmes Found Guilty in Aurora Movie Theater Shooting

James Holmes has been found guilty of murdering twelve people and wounding dozens more in the Colorado movie theater shooting.

The 27-year-old former neuroscience graduate student is eligible for the death penalty for his crimes in the 2012 shooting.

The jurors, who deliberated over two days for about 13 hours, will be the ones who decide if Holmes is executed or sent to prison for life.

While prosecutors showed that Holmes had been planning the attack for months, his lawyers argued that he was mentally ill and unable to tell right from wrong.

You can tell this once promising student snapped and is not mentally sound. No doubt, despite the American jury feeling pity for Arias, they will put this man to death despite the fact that it is a presumption in America that they don’t execute (or even convict) the mentally ill. He was likely not guilty due to insanity and should have been placed in a mental institution. The sentences in America are unjustly and inhumanely long .

He is guilty and punishment is just however, he was harassed and driven to this by MK Ultra. Make them pay too.

Well the jury did not buy into his “mental illness” defense which basically in many states is that you have to know the difference between right and wrong.

Yeah and if he tried to run for public office, that same jury would denounce him as too crazy to run. I am surprised he was found fit to stand trial. One only need look at him to know that there should be some mitigation, surely. Had he been a woman(correction– a young, sexually desirable woman) he would not be getting the death penalty.

The insanity plea is not in place to protect all of those people who are mentally ill. They are there to protect those who are too mentally ill to know the difference between right and wrong. A sociopath is mentally ill, but definitely knows that murdering that little girl is wrong – he just doesn’t care. James Holmes knew that what he was doing was wrong, he just didn’t care. He felt that he was justified in what he did. No, he is not mentally sound, but he is hardly a victim. The 12 people he brutally and ruthlessly murdered are the victims.

Is that all he was diagnosed as suffering, sociopathy? Given his crime alone, one would think he had some form of delusional disorder as well. But sociopathy and psychopathy are conditions far too complex to simplify here. They are essentially people with either a damaged conscience or lack of conscience, respectively. That said, if they lack conscience they lack the ability to see wrong or have the safe guards people not so afflicted have to prevent us doing just as he did.
