Jessica Alba's The Honest Company Releases Statement About Sunscreen Feedback

Jessica Alba‘s billion-dollar natural product line, The Honest Company, has released a statement after criticism of the brand’s sunscreen products.

“The Honest Company is committed to providing safe and effective products, and we take all consumer feedback very seriously,” the statement reads (via People). “Our Sunscreen Lotion was tested, by an independent 3rd party, against the protocols prescribed by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s (FDA) monograph for over-the-counter sunscreen products. The results showed that our product is effective and safe for use as an 80 minute water-resistant (FDA’s highest rating), SPF 30 sunscreen lotion in accordance with FDA regulations when used as directed (Shake Well. Apply liberally and evenly 15 minutes before sun exposure. Reapply after 80 minutes of swimming or sweating, immediately after towel drying and at least every 2 hours).”

It continues, “The number of complaints received on our own website about our Sunscreen Lotion constitute less than one half of one percent of all units actually sold at honest.com.”

The statement follows some feedback from users claiming the sunscreen didn’t protect them from getting burned in the sun. It is unclear whether consumers were properly using the product.

Complaints “received on our own website” is a convenient way of leaving out complaints people have left on facebook, twitter, and consumer review websites. Way to loophole your way around things.

People need to understand that sunscreen isn’t something you apply in the morning and then you’re good to go. If you have a sensitive skin (basically if you’re white) you should apply it every hour and after every time you get in the water. If you don’t then don’t get surprised if you get burned you complexion does not allow you to stay all day on the beach

Hey ! When you’re doing mostly shitty movies, and can be taken seriously as an actress, show that you hotness is enough to sell beauty products.

This new formula is worthless. My relatively thick skinned neck / forearms (sleeveless) turned red / burnt despite using this liberally and it wasn’t even that hot as usual. And now my wife feels guilty for having given to me.

Eh, whatever. I have friends with babies and toddlers, and they subscribe to all the auto-ship Honest products like diapers and wipes and sunscreen. They’re using the sunscreen and their kids aren’t getting burned. I have to think either the Honest Co has some trolls or else some consumers aren’t following the damn directions. You would be surprised at how many people DO NOT take the “15-minutes before exposure” rule seriously.

True, very true. These are two things I know that folks don’t take seriously: re-apply every few hours, and massage well into skin 15 minutes prior to sun exposure. I’m religious about my sunscreen and I never burn. Have used many brands — even the cheap ones protect my skin when I follow the rules for application.
