'Penny Dreadful' Ends After Season 3, Eva Green Reacts

The Showtime series Penny Dreadful has officially ended after the third season.

In a surprising moment at the end of the two-hour finale on Sunday (June 19), “The End” was flashed after a shocking death.

SPOILER ALERT – The series ended with Eva Green‘s character Vanessa Ives being killed by Josh Hartnett‘s character Ethan Chandler.

“I can absolutely confirm it is really over, the end, that’s all she wrote,” series creator John Logan told Deadline. “The whole idea to have this be the end of the series applies to all of the characters not just for Vanessa Ives and I felt the ending was for Malcolm and Ethan was Ethan got the father that he wanted and Sir Malcolm got the family he needed and together they came to a nice thing of stasis.”

Eva and Josh both talk about the series ending in a behind the scenes video released after the finale aired.

“I’m going to miss Vanessa,” Eva said. “It’s going to be hard to kind of leave her behind. To be able to play such a beautiful character is a gift for an actor and I’ve been so lucky.”

I will miss Vanessa Ives as well. Eva Green deserves an Emmy for her work as Vanessa in “Penny Dreadful”.

I just found out I was a “dreadful.” Also, there’s no way this was the way this was supposed to end. Despite the official story of Logan informing Showtime that this would be the last season, I don’t believe it for a second. Logan had the rug pulled out from under him, and so did this story.

Yes, he was given the word at the end of season 2 due to low ratings. I feel betrayed as a fan that they did not respect us enough to give us a better ending and notice that it was SERIES FINALE. Instead, a poorly patched up 2nd half of season 3 that ruined the entire premise of the 2 previous seasons. Shame on John Logan. Shame on Showtime. Badly done.

This sudden ending was just a botched job.
The Vanessa´s struggle finally was lost, she died in the most coward way pretty far. She did not sacrifice herself, she chose the easiest way to scape from her misery in the Ethan´s hands? i don´t see any honor or glory for her character here. That ending finale is how Logan see the world? maybe it is, but in my opinion there is a chance for the hope that in Vanessa we never saw. She never was happy, and her romance with Ethan was the best in a lot of time in the series Tv´s world, just broken in a moment for a stupid decision . Not even they had intimacy. a true tease. Eva Green and her character deserved for better.
