Melania Trump Sues Over Story Suggesting She Was an Escort
Melania Trump has filed a defamation lawsuit against The Daily Mail for suggesting that she was an escort in a an article published in August.
The 46-year-old former model and wife of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is suing the media outlet for $150 million.
“These defendants made several statements about Mrs. Trump that are 100% false and tremendously damaging to her personal and professional reputation,” Melania‘s lawyer Charles Harder said in a statement (via CNN). “Defendants broadcast their lies to millions of people throughout the U.S. and the world—without any justification. Their many lies include, among others, that Mrs. Trump supposedly was an ‘escort’ in the 1990s before she met her husband. Defendants’ actions are so egregious, malicious and harmful to Mrs. Trump that her damages are estimated at $150 million dollars.”
The Daily Mail retracted the article a few days after it was published and posted an apology and retraction.
