Blu-Ray and Digital HD Releases

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

Based on a popular comic book series, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets hits shelves today.

Taking place in the 28th century, Valerian and Laureline are elite operatives tasked to recover a valuable remnant of a mysterious planet. They find themselves in a multi-planet supported floating space station where they run into an unknown dark force that threatens its inhabitants.

Directed by legendary director Luc Besson (Fifth Element), the film is pure visual eye candy and is amazing to watch.

Presented in 4K with a 2160p transfer, the film really shines with the vibrant colors which are especially accentuated when the characters visit each imaginative world after another. Although some of the CG looks a bit cartoonish, it’s easy to dismiss with the level of detail presented in this release.

Extras include featurettes that can be played as you watch the film, a short documentary on the production of the film and the special effects that went into it, and a stills gallery from the film.

Overall, the film was received with mixed success, however, if you really want to test out your theater setup at home, this is a great film to own. Full of action, vivid scenes, and solid audio – this is an overall entertaining and fun movie to watch.

Leap!

For the kids who love dance, Leap! finds its way to blu-ray and digital HD today.

The film follows an eleven-year-old orphan girl, Felicie, who dreams to go to Paris to become a dancer. She teams up with an inventive friend and escape their orphanage to pursue their passions. Upon arriving in Paris, Felicie must now pretend to be the child of a wealth family in order to enter her school of her dreams.

This inspirational family film hits upon some strong themes including that talent alone is not enough, but a heart to succeed and the ability to follow your dreams is stronger.

Although the CGI animation isn’t as fluid as other children’s films, the infectious soundtrack makes up for it. The film is also supported by a strong voice cast, consisting of Elle Fanning, Kate McKinnon, Maddie Ziegler, and Nat Wolff.

The film is presented in 1080p and a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. Extra include a Behind the Scenes video gallery and a featurette about the recording booth featuring some of the cast.

If you’re looking for a family release, be sure to check this one out.
