The creator of the original opening crawl for the 1970s Star Wars films, Dan Perri, is not happy that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story did not use the iconic opening shot.

“Frankly, it is a huge mistake, because the image is so iconic and it’s so important to tens of millions, hundreds of millions of fans,” Dan Perri told THR. “I couldn’t imagine it starting without that. It’s foolish.”

Later in the interview, Dan talked about creating the original crawl for George Lucas.

“I had no idea what he was doing, so it was just this stupid space film. I didn’t think anything of it,” Dan said about creating the original crawl in 1977. “Everything I showed him, he didn’t like. So I was constantly going out there with new ideas, and he would tell me to look at certain films. The Buck Rogers films and all the serials from the ’30s that he was using for inspiration.”

“He liked the idea, but then I had to start shooting and testing and setting type. I went through 20 or 30 or 40 different type styles before I settled on one. Once we did that, I shot tests for weeks and weeks and weeks…When I think back on it, it wasn’t fun. It was a difficult project, but I’m happy with the results,” he added.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story easily topped the box office with a $155 million gross in its first weekend!

The standalone Star Wars flick, starring Felicity Jones and Diego Luna, brought in $290.5 million globally, which is the second-best showing of all time for December behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, according to THR.

Coming in at No. 2 was Disney’s Moana, starring the voices of Dwayne Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho – which earned another $11.6 million.

Taking the third spot was the star-studded comedy Office Christmas Party, making an additional $8.4 million.

Rounding out the top five were Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Will Smith‘s new movie Collateral Beauty, which grossed $7 million and $5 million, respectively.

Meanwhile, La La Land, starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, made $4 million.

With Rogue One: A Star Wars Story now in theaters, everyone is keeping eyes on the box office numbers to see how much the film will make in its opening weekend.

There’s no chance of the movie reaching Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ record-breaking opening weekend of $247,966,675, but no one really expected that anyways!

Still, Rogue One‘s first weekend is set to be huge with an estimated $140 million to $145 million based on early projections from opening day.

The movie, starring Felicity Jones, kicked off on Thursday night with $29 million in previews and it is estimated that the film will bring in a total in the high $60 million range for the full Friday, according to Deadline.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is in theaters now and you’ll probably leave the movie wanting to know more about K-2SO and the character’s voice actor Alan Tudyk!

The 45-year-old actor is well known for his work on the television series Firefly and the accompanying movie Serenity, as well as for starring on the show Dollhouse. He also has voiced roles in tons of Disney movies like Frozen and Moana.

Alan‘s longtime friend Nathan Fillion is predicting that K-2SO will be a very popular character among audiences.

“I believe this is going to be the breakout character,” Nathan told ET. “I think K-2SO is going to be Chewbacca for a new generation. You take everything cool about Boba Fett and you put him in C-3PO.”
