David Oyelowo Says Accusing Benedict Cumberbatch of Racism is 'Absolutely Ridiculous'
David Oyelowo looks super sharp while attending a press conference for his movie Selma held during the 2015 Berlinale International Film Festival at Grand Hyatt Hotel on Tuesday (February 10) in Berlin, Germany.
The 38-year-old actor was joined by his co-star Colman Domingo, as well as director Ava DuVernay, all of whom later hit the red carpet for the film’s premiere.
David recently responded to the backlash Benedict Cumberbatch received for using the term “colored” when talking about black actors and diversity.
“To accuse him of racism is absolutely ridiculous and nonsensical, and anyone who does should be ashamed of themselves,” David told The Big Issue. “He was talking about the under-representation of people within the UK film industry and the fact that actors like me are getting better opportunities in the US. He has no dog in that fight. He is one of the premier white actors, not just in the UK but the world. And he has done something truly beautiful in saying this isn’t right.”
