Airplane Carrying Melania Trump Forced to Land After 'Mechanical Issue'

An airplane carrying First Lady Melania Trump had to make a sudden return to Joint Base Andrews on Wednesday (October 17) just minutes after taking off due to “thin haze of smoke and the smell of something burning,” CNN reports.

Her rep, Stephanie Grisham, said the plane had a “minor mechanical issue. Everything is fine and everyone is safe.”

Reporters were traveling on the plane as well and wet towels were handed out on board if the smell became bothersome.

The First Lady was supposed to be headed to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital to make a speech in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but the trip is being reevaluated at this time.
