Shane Gillis Fired From 'SNL' After Racial Slurs Resurface

Shane Gillis has been fired from the upcoming season of Saturday Night Live before it has even begun.

The new cast member found himself in hot water just hours after he was announced as a new addition for season 45. People on social media found a clip of him using a racial slur.

In an episode of his podcast, Shane previously said, “Chinatown’s f–king nuts. Let the f–king ch—s live there.” He later released an apology that many people felt was not acceptable.

“After talking with Shane Gillis, we have decided that he will not be joining SNL,” an SNL spokesperson on behalf of Lorne Michaels said in a statement (via Variety). “We want SNL to have a variety of voices and points of view within the show, and we hired Shane on the strength of his talent as comedian and his impressive audition for SNL. We were not aware of his prior remarks that have surfaced over the past few days. The language he used is offensive, hurtful and unacceptable. We are sorry that we did not see these clips earlier, and that our vetting process was not up to our standard.”
