Adam Driver Walks Out of NPR Interview - Here's Why

Adam Driver reportedly walked out of a recent NPR interview after he did not want to hear himself in a clip from his film Marriage Story.

According to Daily Beast, the clip in question was when his character sings “Being Alive” from the musical Company.

Danny Miller, Fresh Air’s executive producer, confirmed that Adam left the interview “while we were playing back a clip from the film.” Apparently, the host and team “encouraged him to remove his headphones while any clips played back.”

“We don’t really understand why he left,” Danny wrote in an email. “We were looking forward to the interview—Terry thinks he’s a terrific actor, he was a great guest when he was on [Fresh Air] in 2015—so we were disappointed that we didn’t have a new interview to share with our listeners about Marriage Story.”

Adam spoke during his 2015 appearance on the show about why he prefers not to listen to himself.

“I don’t want to hear the bad acting that probably was happening during that clip,” Driver joked in response at the time. I’ve watched myself or listened to myself before, then always hate it,” Adam said at the time. “And then wish I could change it, but you can’t. And I think I have, like, a tendency to try to make things better or drive myself and the other people around me crazy with the things I wanted to change or I wish I could change.”

Here’s what else Adam Driver once said about what came out of that scene where he sings “Being Alive.”
