Grammys Exec Reacts to Beyonce Not Performing at This Year's Show

Beyonce is the most-nominated performer at the 2021 Grammy Awards, but she has opted not to perform at the event.

This marks that third time in recent years that the most-nominated performer of the year decided not to perform, following Jay-Z in 2018 and Kendrick Lamar in 2019.

The Recording Academy’s interim CEO Harvey Mason Jr. told the Los Angeles Times, “It’s unfortunate, because she’s such a big part of the Recording Academy. We absolutely wish we had her onstage.”

He also insisted that a surprise Beyonce performance is not being planned, nor is one from Adele despite a rumored comeback appearance.

While Harvey is the head of the Recording Academy, he says that he has nothing to do with the nominations. He said that the nominations still cause issues when trying to get performers and one artist turned him down this year “because she was like, ‘I got snubbed three years ago, and I’m still annoyed about it.’ I told her, ‘Right, but you know that’s nothing to do with me?’ She said, ‘I don’t know — it sort of is, isn’t it?’”

Beyonce is up for nine awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for “Black Parade.”
