Kate Middleton Jokes About Wanting to See Prince William in a Spider-Man Suit

Kate Middleton might be asking Prince William to trade in his suits for some spandex!

The 39-year-old Duchess of Cambridge is currently working on a photo exhibition called “Hold Still” with the National Portrait Gallery, a community based project designed to capture life amid the pandemic.

Kate spoke with finalists whose work had been chosen for the exhibition last year in order to find out the stories behind their photos.

In one of her phone calls, she talked with a martial arts teacher who had dressed up as Spider-Man to cheer up children in his neighborhood and joked that she was thinking about buying a similar costume for Prince William.

During lockdown, Jason Bairdand his friend Andrew Baldock often dressed up as the superhero to visit with children during their daily exercise time. The photo chosen for the exhibit shows instructor Jason doing a backflip as children look on from their houses.

“Thank you for sending in your photograph because there are some really emotive and really sad images and stories that we had,” Kate said. “But this brought, you know, particularly to the judging panel, it was such a wonderful, positive image of community spirit. It was amazingly captured.”

“And I hadn’t appreciated at the time that you are a martial arts teacher so that gives it a lot of context as well,” she continued.

“When we heard the news that we were only allowed for an hour a day, exercise and activities whether it was a walk or a run, it was a more a case of we wanted to try and cheer the kids up,” Jason explained. He went on to say that children from the area were also donning Spider-Man costumes and hung signs in their windows that read “Spider-Man stop outside my house.”

Kate said it was “very cool” and added with a laugh, “I’ll see if it takes on the trend to Kensington Palace. I might have to buy William a suit. Unfortunately, I’m not so sure he’s going to get the air clearance that you’ve got!”
