Destry Spielberg is speaking out in response to claims that she’s getting jobs in Hollywood because of nepotism.
The 24-year-old filmmaker, who is the daughter of Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw, just announced that she will be directing her second short film.
Furthering the nepotism debate is the news that the upcoming short will be written by Stephen King‘s son Owen and will star Sean Penn‘s son Hopper.

Destry decided to chime in to a Twitter conversation between The Black List founder Franklin Leonard and actor Ben Stiller, who is also the child of two Hollywood legends.
In a since-deleted tweet, Destry said, “I am just a young aspiring female filmmaker who admires the art of cinema. People can argue nepotism, but I know deep down that I worked hard to get where I am and it wasn’t easy. Beyond proud of this film and proud of the team it took to make it.”
Destry later clarified her tweet and said, “I acknowledge that I was born with privilege! I own that through and through! I make it my mission to bring new talent into the industry & give opportunities to artists of all backgrounds. No one should be left out because of the connections they don’t have.”
